Hi...

I have developed a website for my local swimming club (Blackpool, UK)
and I want to add a password protected function so that club members
can input their own times etc.

I have seen them on other websites (not just swimming) and I wondered
if anyone knew how to set one up, or if the code is available from the
internet.

This is the first website I have built, so any responses would need to
be non technical, as I am not an expert with HTML coding.

Take a look at the club's new website -

Thanks

Depends on what your hosting company allows. I use <www.visn.co.uk> for my
one of my sites and it allows password protection of directories via its web
interface, but I haven't used it yet.

Hi

If you can shell out a few quid ($19.95 for non-profit organisations to be
precise)
I would recommend the following, especially if you're not an html whizz.
It's a programme that will do precisely what you're after and quite a bit
more, in fact it's more of a membership manager than a simple site password
manager. For the amount of time it'll save you looking for free code, it
should be worth the money. And it's coded in the UK!

I use Xara software on a regular basis and would thoroughly recommend them.

Cost of the application can be found here:

Regards.

Both Windows and Linux servers allow this option which should be available
from the web hosting service's client-control panel.
You'll need the password and ID to log in (probably the same one you're
using to ftp your pages to the server). Once in the control panel, look for
'password protect' or 'web protect' and follow the instuctions.

This will allow you to have one common password for the entire club. If you
need tighter security, a password for each member, you will need a database
and a login page.

By The Way:
I run a utility called VolManager that organizes volunteer staffing for swim
meets (see www.volmanager.com for details).
It's been running successfully for about a year in the US and I would like
to help some clubs on your side of the pond.
Would your club be interested? If so have your meet administrator email me
at ***@volmanager.com
